Breakpoint 2009 - Carbon Dioxide

Monday, April 13th, 2009

We got our TMDC demo in a releasable state and decided to submit it to the PC demo competition at Breakpoint. Download executable version.

After a bunch of software rendering mobile demos and text mode demos we feel it is time to move on. There will be some more modern stuff coming out later this year..

New theme and other updates

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Hey,

it has been a while.. We finally managed to get the new theme online. So far we’ve just had the default WordPress theme in use. Plokk designed the logo and colors and I did the layout and the theme.

We were supposed to make a demo for TMDC but again didn’t get it finished in time. I really hope I can get it done soon. In the mean time I’m planning writing some stuff about my text mode rasterizer and also something about 16bit dithering we used in Daydream. It is a very simple method but makes a big difference in visual quality.

Assembly 2008 - Hedelmae placed second!

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Assembly is over and Hedelmae placed second beating Dekadence and Byterapers among others :) The chosen platform for the demo was again the GP2X. We have a nice amount of base code done for it so all we needed to do was concentrate on doing the actual demo. The compo version is now available and a fixed version will be released later. The bugs are more apparent in the GP2X version, the biggest problem being the 3D objects doing sudden rotations. The final version will replace the following zips when it comes out. Also a video version should be out soon.

Assembly was again a nice event despite the rainy weather. Huge thanks to the organizers for making things happen! The only down side for me was the demo competition. Only a handful of demos and none were really that good. We hope next year will be a better year and we also plan to get our first PC demo done for Assembly as well!

Check out the rest of the results and then get the entries from scene.org or pouet.net!

TMDC X

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

TMDC is back again!

For a different kind of coding project, I recommend textmode demos. 80×50 resolution with 16 colors means a lot of CPU power per pixel. For rules etc check out the official website. The deadline is on the 12th of December.

Check out our last year’s production below or download it (for Windows).

Recovering from Assembly 2007

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

It has been a few days after the Assembly. After the initial disappointment we now feel it was a good choice not to release the unfinished and ugly version. We’ve done it before and we really don’t want to do it again :)

I really recommend checking out the other XNA entries:

What are demos all about?

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

I’m sure there are lots of people who have no idea what demoscene or demos are therefore I recommend reading a bunch of Wikipedia articles:

  • Demoscene demo - the program that is run on a computer (or a console or basically any programmable hardware with some kind of video and/or audio output capabilities)
  • Demogroup - a group of people who make demos
  • Demoparty - a happening where people gather to meet, watch demos and take part in the competitions.
  • Demo competition - a contest held at a party (or online)
  • Assembly -demo party - the biggest party in Finland (and has been the biggest on the planet some years ago)

Go to pouet.net and download some :)

Another group joins the blogging fun fun

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Yay,

Portal Process and Excess are together doing something for the XBOX360. Be sure to read their blog also. I have to agree to all the stuff mentioned in their first post about the current XNA version.

It is interesting to see if more groups pop up.
